The Dan Murphy BBQ is an important activity for the Rotary Club of Malvern
One thing that Rotary is known for is the "Sausage Sizzle" and the Rotary Club of Malvern is no exception.
Early in 2009 Dan Murphy's in East Malvern spoke to one of our members about holding a Dan Murphy BBQ at their East Malvern Shop each Saturday.
This idea was discussed as to how, why and when the Dan Murphy BBQ would be held and to what purpose the funds raised would be allocated.
After discussion Council approval was sought and given and we commenced a fortnightly Dan Murphy BBQ at the entrance to Dan Murphy’s East Malvern Shop on Dandenong Rd.
A barbeque was donated by Geoff Hayes from Tait Timber in Tooronga for the club to use. It was then time to source the most important ingredient - sausages. We have been lucky to get our sausages from Len's Butcher in Malvern Central Shopping Centre at a very good price. The great thing is that these sausages a very lean and taste great, so much so that we have regular buyers who have told us they look forward to their fortnightly fix!
We have now become a regular fortnightly fixture at Dan Murphy’s and the money we have raised this year has gone towards our Stonnington Cares project.
Whilst it took a while to get ourselves organised we now have a roster system set up so members only need to attend the Dan Murphy BBQ once each three months for a couple of hours.
As with most of these fundraising events, all members need to donate is a little time and effort, and in return they know that funds raised are a going to a very worthy cause. The bonus of course to all this is the wonderful fellowship that takes place.
If you live in the Malvern/East Malvern area or are just passing, pop in to the Dan Murphy BBQ and see just one of the Rotary Club of Malvern's many community projects in action.
