President's Message
Hello fellow Rotarians,
We had a great meeting on Wednesday when we had a visit from District Governor, Peter Sheppard, who shared with members that the grouping that had been proposed for our club was not going to mean us separating from other clubs that we have had close associations with. It was a good opportunity to have some discussion with Peter on this important matter and he is certainly advocating for a structure that will be suitable for us going forward.

Wednesday May 27 will be a special meeting for our club as we will be presenting the encouragement award to an apprentice plumber from Holmesglen - sponsored by Reece. This has been a tradition in our club over many years, the award had previously been sponsored by Geoff Hayes, one of our former members. It will be a great meeting and we are hoping if you have some colleagues that may want to attend that you invite them. We will also be showcasing us as a Rotary club and the great activities we do. For example - the East Timor water project.
Looking forward to catching up with all of you this week.

Regards

Cheryl Cohan

This week we have a special meeting with a number of guests joining us - we have the presentation of our annual encouragement award for an apprentice plumber. The award recipient will receive a certificate and gift voucher from Reece Plumbing. Michael Stillwell, our community leader, will be joining us. It is a great opportunity for members to bring along a guest so that they can find out more about Rotary as an organisation. During the afternoon, we are hoping to have some updates from some of the board members, regarding some of the activities that they have been involved with in the last year.

RIMERN Visit Sat 13 June
Our Club is joining with Rotary Chadstone/East Malvern for a volunteering session on the Saturday morning. Carpooling to go to the Brunswick East warehouse will be available. Tasks include things like - matching up linen to make up a set, wiping out a fridge, putting together a "kitchen" pack.

We would like to collect donations to take with us. New or "first class" second hand household items are needed.  Think about everything you need to set up a home and then RIMERN sets up over 400 homes per year!

Check your kitchen drawers for items like scissors, ladles, wooden spoons, potato peelers. Check your linen cupboard for extra sheets, doona covers, throws, and cushions.

Or drop into Kmart and buy items like a dustpan and brush for $1.50 or a saucepan set $12, a washing basket $3, a kitchen tong $1.50, a peeler $1.50, 5 piece kitchen utensil set $4.50.

Bring the items with you on the Saturday or bring with you on the Wednesday prior.
40 People will sleep warmer tonight because of us!
Our club donated 40 sleeping bags to Avalon - which means that 40 homeless people will sleep much warmer tonight!

Well Done to us!!!

Australia Rotary Health

Australian Rotary Health has always been, at its heart, a Rotary story. It is a national charity, but more importantly, it is a collective effort built through the commitment of Clubs across Australia choosing to invest in something that delivers long-term impact.

Each year, that support enables us to fund more than two million dollars in health research. Today, our focus is firmly on the mental health of children aged 0-12 - recognising that early intervention offers one of the most powerful opportunities to change life trajectories. The evidence is clear: many mental health challenges begin early, and with the right research and understanding, we can respond sooner and more effectively.

This work is not immediate, and it is not always visible. It is built over time, through sustained commitment, careful investment, and a shared belief that better outcomes are possible.

Our Club is donating $500 to this Rotary project.

Shelterbox
At our last Board meeting the decision was made to donate $1500 to Shelterbox.
